The Opinel No. 7 Carbone pocket knife.
I'm finally going to open my birthday gift for myself. The Opinel No.7 pocket knife. This is the Carbone variant (carbon steel).
First, wrist watch shot.
Yes, I'm wearing my Citizen Promaster NY0040 diver. I'm thinking of having the crystal replaced with a sapphire.
Here is the knife in its packaging. It's in a blister pack.
I got this one from a local tactical store called Forged. If you are interested in checking out their store, they are located at the basement level of Makati Cinema Square or check out their website here.
Let's open it!
I didn't get the one with the leather pouch simply because its way more expensive. Personally, I can make do without the pouch.
Packaging is in multiple languages. I'm still thinking if I should keep the packaging...maybe the paper insert. The plastic blister pouch can go.
It's carbon steel so care must be taken to keep the blade from rusting.
Now to open the knife.
What's cool about this knife is its locking collar called VIROBLOC.
It can be locked when folded and most especially when it's open. This prevents the blade from accidentally closing or opening. A great safety feature. Mind you, this is not the only folding knife that has this locking collar. I did see another knife in the Forged store that looks similar to the Opinel, Unfortunately, it's not carbon steel and its more expensive. Twice more than the Opinel of the same size. It's similar in design to the Opinel, but hails from Italy while Opinel is from France. I just might get one for review some time in the future.
I have been contemplating for a long time about getting a folding knife and I finally pulled the trigger with the Opinel. The reason being that its the only folding knife I know of that is carbon steel and is not considered as a concealed weapon. I'm looking at you "BALISONG". For me the Opinel is more of a utilitarian knife rather than a weapon for self defense.
I've had other folding knives in the past, but nothing like the international brand, Opinel. I will be posting a review of this knife after I have tried and tested it.
Enjoy!
